Getting 100,000 people to visit a website is quite an achievement in the online world, but getting 100,000 people to visit your website at the ‘same time’ is another thing entirely. Few sites are able to achieve this, and those that do, go are usually pulling in some serious traffic.

The latest site to join the 100k concurrent visitors club is Reddit, the popular social news site. This occurred recently and was disclosed by Reddit’s GM, Erik Martin. Martin said that although the site surpassed the 100K mark, the milestone came as no real surprise since Reddit’s been inching close to the figure for several weeks. This milestone, surprise or not, will be good news to Conde Naste who acquired the site with a view to turning it into a cash cow.

So far the acquisition has proved fruitful and Reddit has been growing consistently since. In December of 2011, Reddit clocked 2 billion pageviews on the back of 35 million unique visitors. These strong numbers means that Reddit is climbing the Alexa rankings table, and currently puts the site at the 50th most popular site in the US. Daily reach for Reddit falls between 600,000 and 1 million visits, and according to Martin, “the site’s growth has been steady over the past couple of years — it zoomed past Digg in April 2011”.

It’s clear that the acquisition has added some power to Reddit, and the fact that it has surpassed Digg in terms of traffic can only mean good things for the future.reddit.com
